Ginger Dough

1 1/2 c Granulated sugar 1 1/2 c Shortening 1 lg Egg 12 oz Molasses 1 1/2 tb White vinegar 6 1/2 c All purpose flour 2 1/4 ts Baking soda 1/2 ts Salt 3 tb Ground ginger 3 ts Ground cloves; up to 4 Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg and beat. Beat in molasses and vinegar. Sift together baking soda, salt, ginger, cloves, cinnamon. Add to mix and cream. Add flour all at once and stir just until flour is blended.
